Star Engineering has been manufacturing radiators and cores in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside for nearly 40 years. Founded by John Underwood in the early 1980's, originally as a general engineering firm. However, John was persuaded to manufacture a new radiator for a Type 59 Bugatti. Word quickly spread, and before long Star Engineering specialized in vintage car radiators and fuel tanks. John's father, John Underwood senior, designed and manufactured the machinery to cut and punch the tubes for the honeycomb cores. Frustrated by the quality of film cores available, John then designed the presses and tooling to manufacture film cores.

Over the intervening years, the business has prospered and has manufactured or rebuilt several thousand radiators and cores. After nearly 40 years manufacturing radiators, John is planning to enter semi-retirement and is intending to use his free time to complete some of his own collection of cars. However, the business continue with John's son Richard at the helm. Richard is currently serving his apprenticeship under the watchful eye of Gareth and John, ensuring that Star Engineering will continue to provide the finest craftsmanship for the next 40 years!
